The Wyoming Legislature passed property tax relief for residents 65 years and older and who have paid property taxes in Wyoming for over 25 yeras and reside in their home for more than eight months of the year.
Johnson County Assessor Steve Esponda said that since the application came available, he's seen roughly 150 applications. The deadline to apply is the end of May 2025.
Effective for two years, those who qualify can obtain a 50% exemption by picking up an application at the assessor's office or filling it out online. For a property worth $400,000, a roughly $3,000 tax bill would be reduced to $1,500 with a 50% exemption, Esponda said.
